چکیده
A study into the mechanical behaviour and design of steel equal-leg cruciform section members subjected to axial compression is presented. Experimental data from literature are used validate shell finite element models developed within commercial package ABAQUS for their load-deformation ultimate behaviour. numerical parametric then considers columns with a wide range slenderness ratios various common boundary conditions. The response load-carrying capacity shown be dependent not only on column but also torsional flexural elastic buckling load ratio. Finally, recently established approach angle extended include members, verified against available results. It found through reliability analysis based EN 1990 procedure that new proposal offers substantially improved accuracy consistency in strength predictions compared existing codified rules columns; recommended partial safety factor 1.0 determined.

Finite Element Comparison of Design Methods for Locally Slender Steel Beams and Columns
The objective of this paper is to describe and analyze a series of nonlinear finite element analyses used to compare three design methods for locally slender, braced, steel beams and columns. The three design methods are: (i) the hot-rolled steel AISC Specification, (ii) the coldformed steel AISI Specification which uses the effective width method throughout, and (iii) the cold-formed steel Dir...
متن کاملInvestigation of Nonlinear Behavior of Composite Bracing Structures with Concrete Columns and Steel Beams (RCS) Applying Finite Element Method
The composite structural system (RCS) is a new type of moment frame, which is including a combination of concrete columns (RC) and steel beams (S). These structural systems have the advantages of both concrete and steel frames [1]. In previous research on composite structures, there are some studies regarding RCS composite conections, but there is no investigation about seismic resisting system...
متن کاملA Super - Element Based on Finite Element Method for Latticed Columns Computational Aspect and Numerical Results
This paper presents a new super-element with twelve degrees of freedom for latticed columns. This elements is developed such that it behaves, with an acceptable approximation, in the same manner as a reference model does. The reference model is constructed by using many Solid elements. The cross section area, moments of inertia, shear coefficient and torsoinal rigidity of the developed new elem...
متن کاملNonlinear finite element analysis of Concrete Filled Steel Tube (CFST) columns under projectile impact loading
This paper presents a three dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis for Concrete Filled Steel Tube (CFST) columns subjected to lateral impact load. The finite element models were developed using commercial code ABAQUS/Explicit, which were validated against the experimental results. The study has been carried out to examine the influence of several parameters such as the length of the tube...
متن کاملFinite Element Analysis for CFST Columns under Blast Loading
The columns of frame structures are the key load-bearing components and the exterior columns are susceptible to attack in terrorist blasts. When subjected to blast loads, the columns would suffer a loss of bearing capacity to a certain extent due to the damage imparted which may lead to their collapse and even cause the progressive collapse of the whole structure . The concrete-filled steel col...
